How to Block Spam Texts And Calls on Your Phone
As you know, spam texts and calls are some of the most annoying aspects of owning a phone. Telemarketers are some of the most annoying people to ever walk the Earth. They will call you at the most awkward times, when you are in meetings, when you’re working out, even when you’re at the movie theaters. They simply just don’t care. Imagine you’re watching your favorite show, only to be interrupted by a meaningless call. In an ideal world, you would delete the spam text and the messages will stop coming. Of course, this is a dream and doesn’t necessarily always help.
The Federal Trade Commission
One option you have is to report the number to the National Do Not Call Registry. This helps to an extent, but spammer will occasionally find ways to circumvent the list. But reporting to the FTC will always help because it gives them useful information they can work with. The FTC is particularly interest in illegal sales calls and robocalls.
Your Cellular Provider Can Help
Another step you can take is to report the spam to your mobile provider. Each mobile provider has its own protocol for dealing with spam callers, so you will need to check with your provider for the appropriate procedure.
- AT&T: 1-800-331-0500
- Verizon: 1-800-922-0204
- Sprint: 1-888-211-4727
- T-Mobile: 1-877-453-1304
Many providers also have spam protection services. AT&T has a Call Protect feature that automatically blocks numbers they detect as spam. They even offer reverse number searches and call tracking. Verizon and Sprint both have a spam filter that comes with their Caller ID apps, but it costs extra. By default, T-Mobile notifies users when spam is suspected.
