How to Improve WiFi Phone Signal

Having a terrible WiFi phone signal at your residence can make your life really difficult. Most of our activities and communications rely solely on internet connection. When things start going down the road, you might find yourself frustrated with how your unstable your signal is.

While a lot of factors can contribute to poor WiFi signal, some problems can be resolved with really simple steps. Users usually tend to go for a whole new router, or even a booster device of some kind. While that might actually improve the WiFi connection at your home, it’s still a solution that’s heavy on your budget.

If you’re not willing to spend extra money and upgrade your devices, it’s not the end of the world. Let’s assume you own an Android smartphone and you’re experiencing poor WiFi signal with that device. There are some things that you can do to improve the WiFi connection exponentially. Let’s just jump right into it and give you some really cool tips that will most definitely help out:

Is There an Interference with Other Networks?

The very first thing you need to check is whether there’s a conflict between your WiFi phone signal and other wireless networks around you. Not lots of users are privy to this, but having other WiFi connections that surrounds your own might pose a possibility of an interference.

Routers usually use either 2.4Ghz or the more advanced 5Ghz channels. When connected on the former, your connection might get hooked up on a channel already being used by another network. When that happens, your internet connection can suffer drastically, showing symptoms of unexplained poor signal and unstable connection overall. If you’d like to learn more about this, we explained before how your neighbors might be affecting your WiFi network.

Another thing you can do to improve your WiFi signal is to change some setting on your Android device. First of all, you need to have your Developer Options activated in order to do this.

  • Head to Settings, then About phone.
  • Scroll down and you’ll find something called Build number. Just click on it seven times to trigger the feature of enabling Developer Options on your Android smartphone.

Once you’re done with that, you’ll need to head back to Settings and locate Developer Options:

  • Scroll down the list, you’ll find “Aggressive WiFi to Mobile handover.”
  • Tick the button to turn it on, and you’ll start receiving a wider range of WiFi signals to your Android.

What if you don’t want to change that many settings on your phone? It’s not a problem. There’s an extra thing you could do that will definitely improve how your phone is receiving the connection.

  • Head to Settings and then Wi-Fi.
  • Once you’re there, click on Advanced Settings. Scroll down to choose ‘Wi-Fi Frequency Band.’
  • Then, simply choose 5Ghz, so you’re only connected on channels in that system.

This will allow your phone to pick the 5Ghz connections whenever it’s possible. If you’re managing an office with a wide space, you might want to look into inserting access points. These will strengthen the same Wi-Fi network across a larger range.

You can also go through the Google Play Store and get a Wi-Fi management app that will let you control each access point, and how the connection is divided upon them all.

First of all, you need to contact your service provider and inquire about the specifications of your current package. Maybe the speed you have isn’t covering your usage or that of your house members. A plan upgrade might be the solution for you to speed up your internet connection and regain that seamless experience.

On the other hand, you can look into upgrading your router. Sometimes, when you apply for a plan with a certain provider, they offer you a router for free. Most of online users tend to stick with such devices for a long period of time. What they don’t know is that companies usually hand out rather cheap routers, just to get your leg into the door.
