Ever since the first Moto Z handsets launched in 2016, this particular series hasn’t changed all that much over the years. New models get less bezel around the display and better specs, but for the most part, the phones remain the same to accommodate Motorola’s Moto Mod system.
Best answer: The Moto Z4 is an affordable way to gain access to Verizon’s 5G network, but if you already have an older Moto Z device, you might be able to just buy the 5G Moto Mod instead. If you’re a new Verizon customer, however, the Z4 is available at a fantastic price.

The Moto Z series has gone through quite a few identity crises over the last four years. What was once Motorola’s showcase for its flagship hardware has since become a humbler midrange offering, as the company continues to shift away from the high-end space — a strategy that seems to be working, with Motorola turning a profit for the first time since being acquired by Lenovo in 2014.
