While not really being available outside of North America, the popular music-streaming service Pandora is now adding a dark mode that is fully supported by Android 10.
After an initial rollout in Australia, Spotify earlier today pushed out a new listening option for music lovers. Notably, the new option isn’t contained within the existing Spotify app but is offered up as an entirely separate app dubbed Spotify Stations.
The new app, in contrast to the existing Spotify app, doesn’t allow users to play songs on demand. Rather, it’s positioned as more of a music discovery tool. Users can create stations based on artists they enjoy or by picking specific genres. Last year, Android added the option that gives users the ability to use Spotify as your alarm clock. This was a game changer for me. I now can wake up happily listening to a song that I appreciate. Instead of listening to the “beep beep beep” that I normally have to grudgingly wake up for. To top this off Android has begun to integrate YouTube Music and Pandora. Including the Google Clock app, which is where the main alarm features of an Android is located. This new feature were added with the new version 6.1 update. YouTube Music, the latest in Google’s long history of attempts at breaking into the music streaming market, launched last month in 17 countries. However, it may be too late for Google’s latest attempt at music streaming, as the competition is fierce between veteran services like Spotify and Pandora, newcomers like Deezer and Tidal, and of course Apple Music from Google’s biggest competitor. Since launch, we’ve been using YouTube Music extensively to see how it truly fares against some of these rivals.
